There was something special about last Thursday’s gathering. I knew and felt it as soon as I entered the room where our JtM prayer group (which is under the patronage of St.Benedict) had already started to pray.
I had my granddaughter with me and she was keeping me busy with getting her settled in to the playroom. When I was finally able to join in the prayers of the Rosary, I knelt as soon as I entered the room. I was worried about being distracted, about coming in late, about being able to settle in to prayer. But the first thing I noticed, as soon as I entered and knelt, was a very reverent atmosphere and, for a change, that I was actually instantly able to concentrate and enter into prayer. This surprised me; it was unexpected and I felt it to be a special (and undeserved) grace. I felt as if Jesus or Mary was present there, in a special way, but I cannot explain that- except for this feeling of reverence within the atmosphere of the room.
I was too soon pulled away again by ‘Miss 3 year old’ to tend to another problem but I continued to pray and hurried back to re-join the group. It was upon re-entering that I realized that the room in which our group was praying was filled with the smell of incense...
As I came back in to the prayer room, I had opened the sliding door and the clear, unmistakable smell of incense had filled the room – but it was not visible
and I also observed that it did not choke me or cause a cough. As someone else opened the door and knelt, I noticed that the scent wafted out towards the other rooms and gradually diffused while the last two decades of the Chaplet of Mercy were prayed.
After prayer, we read from the Book of Truth Volume 3 a message about Truth and how once it is tampered with, it becomes only an empty shell. At this point, I noticed something else that happened. Something so ‘out of the ordinary’, that I thought it almost miraculous. My wonderful, elderly Aunty (who has developed a form of dementia) suddenly sat up and took notice as we read the words of Jesus about Truth. Her face reflected the myriad of emotions; as if she felt every word as they were being read aloud. She sighed and at the end said that it was all ‘so true’. She was responding to Jesus’ Words! This is the first time that this has ever happened and the longest time that I have ever seen her so lucid and at the same time, deeply thoughtful.
Jesus’ Words are full of the power of the Holy Spirit. That day my Aunty was visibly moved by the Holy Spirit. In any person, this is amazing, but today it brought home one more thing. God’s Word is like a sword. It cuts like a knife. It can cut through the fog of dementia. It can reach the most hardened heart or the most feeble mind. We should not fail to share It; especially with the weak, the sick and the dying. Even the comatose. For only Our Lord knows the good it does and It’s Power. We are to be ever thankful for His Holy Word.
That is why that moment, and all of Thursday, was special. That is why every prayer meeting around the world is too.
From the Book of Truth (5th Feb. 2013)
“… For each Prayer Group set up, to recite the Crusade Prayers, a special Grace will be given to you by my precious Son.
He is present in every group and He will make you aware of this. You will feel His Love and then you will witness the fruits, as they will pour forth and spread His Most Holy Word….”
